2007 AHA Satellite Symposium: Refractory Angina — Options for the No-Option Patient
Refractory Angina — Options for the No-Option Patient
November 4, 2007, Orlando, Florida
Patients with refractory angina present a conundrum to the practicing cardiologist, because they are often difficult to manage. In this symposium, you will hear the latest about the management of refractory angina from leading researchers and clinicians. Pharmacological, device, and cellular therapies to deal with this important and problematic disease will be reviewed. Case studies and novel therapies being investigated will be presented.

After attending this symposium, participants will be able to:
1. Explain the definition, epidemiology, and natural history of patients with refractory angina.
2. Summarize the rationale and trial results of cellular therapy for patients with refractory angina.
3. Describe current available clinical and research options for refractory angina, which include cellular therapies, pharmacologic therapy (ranolazine), and devices such as enhanced external counterpulsation for refractory angina.
