Conference Overview
This full-day conference will feature a fast-paced agenda with case presentations to illustrate clinical concerns, their evaluation and therapy options. Leading Allina cardiologists will emphasize practical approaches to common cardiovascular dilemmas encountered by the primary care physician, family physician and internist, including: How should I treat the resistant hyperlipidemic patient? What are the recommendations for treating progressively resistant hypertension? And what workup should be undertaken before non-cardiac surgery in the cardiac patient? Breakout sessions will feature hands-on learning and audience participation.
Time & Place
Time: Friday, October 7, 2011, 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (CT)
Place: Minneapolis Airport Marriott (near the Mall of America)
2020 American Blvd E., Bloomington, MN
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this conference, participants should be able to:
- Review the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of systolic and diastolic heart failure (HF).
- Assess the genesis, clinical implications, and therapy of atrial fibrillation and other common arrhythmias.
- Outline the proper utilization of advanced imaging techniques available for CAD and CHF.
- Evaluate patients for preoperative cardiac risk.
- Identify and diagnose critical limb ischemia, and evaluate treatment options.
- Discuss safety, efficacy, and appropriate use of newly approved anticoagulant and antiplatelet agents.
- Identify the basis for diagnosis and therapy of resistant hyperlipidemia and hypertension syndromes.
Afternoon Breakout Sessions
ECG and Arrhythmias
Dr. Bill Katsiyiannis will present “bread and butter arrhythmias” and challenge attendees to identify them in a fast-paced, quiz-style breakout.
Pathology: The Jesse E. Edwards Registry of Cardiovascular Disease
Investigate cardiac anatomy and pathology by getting up close and personal with hearts from the Jesse E. Edwards Registry of Cardiovascular Disease. See and touch examples of hearts with diseases and conditions you see in your daily practice.
Advanced Cardiac Imaging
Join Dr. Rob Schwartz as he shares with you the latest and greatest in imaging technology. Review cases and learn how advanced CCTA can be used to provide detailed 3D images of the heart in seconds with minimal radiation.
Target Audience
Primary care providers, including internists, hospitalists, family practitioners, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Interested allied health professionals may also attend.
