The Foundation currently provides the following services and supports in tobacco cessation to communities and worksites throughout the state and region:
Onsite Consultation Services
Smoke-free workplace policy development and implementation and assistance in planning smoking cessation/intervention programs and activities
Fee: No cost (if associated with the delivery of Foundation programs/services)
Web-based Smoking Cessation Resource Directory
A comprehensive web-based listing of tobacco cessation resources in Minnesota providing health promotion professionals and individuals with information on current resources available both locally and nationally. Click here to check it out.

FirstStep Smoking Cessation Workshop
A 2½-hour readiness-centered program designed to prepare and position smokers for success in their tobacco cessation efforts. The workshop includes information on the benefits and drawbacks to quitting, familiarizing the smoker with their habit, readiness assessments, appropriate and recommended pharmacological and behavioral quitting strategies, developing a personalized cessation plan, maintenance/relapse prevention skills and available community resources. This program has proven effective as a freestanding cessation intervention as well as a preparation class prior to participation in a formal lockstep program.
Fee: $250 per workshop (5 –15 participants)
Smoking Cessation Support Groups
Typically facilitated bi-weekly, support groups can serve as the primary support for individuals progressing through the quitting process or as a logical follow-up to participation in the FirstStep Smoking Cessation Workshop.
Fee: $85 per one-hour session
Individual Tobacco Cessation Counseling
The Foundation offers one-on-one counseling sessions to assist smokers in their cessation efforts. With support and assistance from a tobacco cessation specialist, participants become familiar with the most current and effective strategies for cessation and develop a personalized plan for quitting. The program involves an initial telephone intake followed by an onsite one-hour counseling session and follow-up telephone support.
Fee: $85 per person
Information and Support Line
MHIF health education specialists respond daily to telephone inquiries for information and also provide referrals, when appropriate, to support the tobacco cessation and personal heart health improvement efforts of Minnesotans.
