Title: MA-RIT: Multicenter Automatic Defibrillator Implantation Trial-Reduce Inappropriate Therapy
Status: Enrolling
Study Sponsor: Boston Scientific
Principal Investigator: Charles Gornick, MD
Study Overview: The overall goal of this trial is to determine if safe and effective ICD device therapy can be provided while at the same time reducing inappropriate therapy. Currently, patients implanted with an ICD have devices that are programmed to treat rhythms that are common to patients that have had a heart attack. It is less clear what the optimal programming is for patents who need an ICD but have not had a heart attack. This study is being conducted to determine the best programming for primary prevention patients to reduce the number of inappropriate therapies (shocks) that may be received from a CRT-D or ICD cardiac device.
This study will be conducted at about 75 centers and enroll approximately 1,500 subjects. Participation in this study is expected to be approximately 12-24 months, and is limited to collecting data at regular ICD checks.
