Relax
Relax
Title: Relax – Double-blind, placebo controlled study testing the hypothesis that chronic PDE-5 inhibition (Sildenafil) improves exercise capacity and clinical status in patients with heart failure(HF) and normal ejection fraction (diastolic HF, DHF). The study also measures the effect of this therapy on key pathophysiological parameters which are postulated to impact clinical status and exercise performance in DHF. A total of 190 patients with DHF will be studied.
Study Sponsor: HEART FAILURE CLINICAL RESEARCH NETWORK
Principal Investigator: Desmond Jay, MD
Study Synopsis: This research study is for those individuals that have been diagnosed with Diastolic Heart Failure (DHF). DHF is a condition in which one of the chambers of your heart, the left ventricle, is unable to relax completely therefore cannot fill with blood properly. Because your body is not receiving the proper blood supply, this can cause you to be short of breath and can cause your body to store too much fluid. This study is being done to see if the drug Sildenafil will help improve your ability to exercise and your quality of life. Sildenafil is also known as Viagra or Revatio. We are testing to see if Sildenafil can improve heart failure in individuals by relaxing the muscle of the heart.
A total of 190 patients with DHF will be studied. The entire study will last approximately 3 years. Each person’s progress will be followed for about 24 weeks over 6 clinic visits and 6 phone visits.
Study Status: Enrolling soon
