Support MHIF

Help us give the gift of heart health to families in Minnesota and around the world!

Why Support Us?

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one killer in the world. In the United States alone, more than 2,400 people die of the disease each day—an average of one death every 37 seconds.

Preventing CVD, and increasing the quality of life for those who already have it, takes a profound commitment and a non-stop effort—this is the work of the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation, and we are making significant progress.

Our groundbreaking research, professional education and innovative community programs have made us one of the nation’s top ten centers for cardiovascular research and education.

We are changing the way CVD is treated and prevented. Highlights of our pioneering work include:
  • Level 1—a replicable system that gives people who live within a 210-mile radius of a large metro area the same access to live-saving angioplasty as those who live a few blocks away.
  • A protocol standardizing diagnosis and treatment of acute aortic dissection (a tear in the wall of the aorta) that has reduced mortality by almost 50%.
  •  A therapeutic hypothermia protocol that helps reduce the risk of neurological damage in cardiac arrest patients by quickly cooling body temperature and gradually returning it to normal.
  • The OPTIMIST program that provides possibilities to patients, like using their own stem cells to grow new blood vessels and heart tissue, who have run out of options to treat their heart disease.
  • Hearts Beat Back: The Heart of New Ulm Project combines prevention, early treatment and community building efforts to create a community without heart disease and forge a model for the entire country.
  • Our Women’s Heart Health Program takes a multi-pronged approach to improving women’s heart health through clinical care, education, prevention and research studies.
  • Girls and Moms on the Move™ is a program designed to encourage physical activity, healthy eating, positive lifestyle choices, self-esteem and strong family relationships for girls aged 8-12 and their mothers.

Please consider supporting the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation and our protocols, treatment options and education programs that are giving people a fighting chance against cardiovascular disease.
