Women's Heart Health Center

At the Women’s Heart Health Center, clinical care, education and research are the pillars of our mission. We nurture and care for women with heart disease, educate them about the risks of heart disease, support them and their families in finding lifestyles to strengthen heart health, and add to research specific to women and cardiovascular disease.

Research focused on women is particularly necessary. We need to better understand how heart disease is different in women so new treatment strategies can be considered.

As a part of this effort, we cover a wide variety of heart disease states in women, including but not exclusive to Acute Coronary Syndromes, ST elevation MI (acute heart attack), and severe coronary artery disease and angina that cannot be treated by conventional means. One of our new initiatives is to examine the effects of stress reduction on heart health, subclinical markers of heart disease, and cardiac events. We are also looking at ways to assess the natural history of heart disease in women.

We work with the Women’s Heart Health Program at the Minneapolis Heart Institute® at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and with Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Our close working relationships provides access to the most current research protocols available and will increase the number and type of studies available to women in Minnesota.
