IRA Charitable Rollover

An IRA charitable rollover, or qualified charitable distribution, lets those 70½+ donate from their IRA to charity tax-free.

Give from your IRA

If you’re age 70½ or older, you can make a tax-free gift of up to $100,000 each year directly from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation. This type of gift—known as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) or IRA charitable rollover—allows you to support life-changing heart research and education while reducing your taxable income.

How a rollover gift works

You instruct your IRA administrator to send funds directly to MHIF rather than to you. Your gift can count toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) and is excluded from your adjusted gross income, providing a simple, tax-efficient way to give.

Getting started

Contact your IRA administrator to request a Qualified Charitable Distribution to the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation. Then, let us know about your gift so we can thank you, confirm it has arrived, and ensure it’s directed to the programs most meaningful to you.

Who to contact for support

As with any financial decision, please consult your tax or financial advisor to see how an IRA charitable rollover may fit your giving goals. Our staff would also be happy to answer any questions you may have about giving to MHIF.
