How did you hear about the MHIF internship and why did you want to participate?

I found the MHIF internship while looking for clinical research programs for the summer. Last summer, I was able to work in clinical research and found it very interesting and engaging. The MHIF internship seemed like a perfect way to gain more experience in clinical research while also being able to learn about medicine through shadowing and field trips.

What sparked your interest in the field of research, medicine and cardiology?

I decided to pursue medicine after working as a health aide for a YMCA summer camp because I found myself constantly excited to work with the volunteer doctors and nurses there. Since then, I have also had the opportunity to conduct research ranging from brain tumor treatment to health policy. These various perspectives on medicine have affirmed my interest in the field, and I am excited to explore cardiology this summer.

What is your desired career in medicine?

I hope to be a physician and I am currently interested in Emergency Medicine, but excited to learn more about other specialties.

What are you most looking forward to this summer?

I am excited to shadow a surgical procedure, which is something I have not done before.

What do you hope to gain from this experience?

I am hoping to gain a comprehensive overview of cardiology research and practice, especially regarding how clinical research is used to improve patient outcomes. I also hope to improve my research skills for future projects.

What are your plans after the summer?

I will be finishing up my last year of college before taking a gap year to work in clinical research or EMS while applying to medical school.

What is a fun fact about you?

I have a twin brother!
