How did you hear about the MHIF internship and why did you want to participate?

I discovered this internship through various MHIF events during my upbringing, as a family member is involved with the foundation. After interning in the Transplant department last summer, I developed a keen interest in the foundation's ongoing research to improve patient care and treatments. Now, I am thrilled to contribute to clinical research within the field of medicine and make a positive impact on cardiology patient care

What sparked your interest in the field of research, medicine and cardiology?

During my summer internship as a biomedical engineering intern, I had the opportunity to interact with patients in a clinical setting which solidified my interest in pursing a career in medicine. My coursework further fueled my interest in the cardiovascular system. Although I currently work in a research lab focused on brain cancer, I’m eager to explore the direct impact of clinical research within a hospital environment.

What is your desired career in medicine?

Currently, I am interested in pursuing a career in interventional therapies, but I am keeping an open mind as I learn more about the many fields.

What are you most looking forward to this summer?

I am excited about the prospect of conducting clinical research in a hospital setting, particularly in the area of cardiac amyloidosis alongside Dr. Wan. Ongoing clinical research is crucial in improving patient care, and I am thrilled to be a part of these efforts.

What do you hope to gain from this experience?

I hope to gain valuable insights into the cardiovascular field of medicine, including ongoing research, in order to advance our current understanding of these diseases. I am also excited about the opportunity to meet with many professionals in the field and learn about their roles and how they collaborate in a hospital setting.

What are your plans after the summer?

After the summer, I plan on completing my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering and minor in chemistry at Tufts University. I will continue researching glioblastoma treatments in David Kaplan's lab as I take the MCAT and begin working on my medical school application.

What is a fun fact about you?

I recently traveled to Malawi as a part of Tufts Engineers Without Borders, where we designed and installed a water distribution system to supply a school system with running water!
