I learned about the MHIF internship through an internet search for cardiology internships. I have been exposed to clinical research during college and I worked on a project in pediatric congenital heart surgery, which really got me interested in the field. I was drawn to the internship program as it allows me to explore clinical cardiology research blending my interests.
From an early age, I have seen the impacts of cardiovascular disease on family members and my community. My love for discovery initially drew me to research broadly, and the direct impact that it can have in improving the quality of life for patients at their most vulnerable moments sparked my interest in medicine.
I am keeping my mind open to all specialties, but so far I am interested in pediatrics.
I am interested in seeing the direct intersection of research and patient care. I am also excited to start conducting clinical research, as well as the field trips to biotech companies.
I hope to get a better insight into clinical research and its implementation into medical practice. I also seek to learn and discover my interests within the field of medicine.
I will participate in the Archer Fellowship during the fall semester, where I will be interning with a political office in Washington D.C. In January, I will return to UT Austin to finish my undergraduate degree.
I tried pizza flavored ice cream and actually liked it.
